Maa Mahagauri - Eighth Form of Goddess Durga

Maa Mahagauri

महागौरी · Goddess of Purity

ॐ देवी महागौर्यै नमः॥

Maa Mahagauri is the eighth manifestation of Goddess Durga, worshipped on Navratri Day 8. She is the purest and most radiant form of the Divine Mother, with fair (snow-white) complexion, wearing white garments, and riding a white bull. After severe penance to win Lord Shiva, her body was cleansed of all impurities, turning her radiant white. She has **four arms** holding a trident, drum, and granting boons/fearlessness. She is the embodiment of the Ajna Chakra (third eye chakra) and represents inner purity, grace, wisdom, and spiritual illumination.

Story & Spiritual Significance

Purification Story: After intense penance to win Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati's body became covered with dirt. When Shiva bathed her with Ganga water, all impurities washed away, revealing her radiant white form — Mahagauri (Great White One).

Ajna Chakra: She governs the third eye chakra, awakening intuition, wisdom, clarity of thought, spiritual insight, and the power to see beyond illusions.

Ruling Planet: Rahu. Her worship removes Rahu dosha, illusions, confusion, skin diseases, mental disturbances, and brings purity of mind and spiritual progress.

Symbolism: White complexion and garments represent purity and sattva guna. White bull signifies dharma and controlled strength. Trident and drum represent destruction of ego and cosmic rhythm.
