Maa Shailputri is the first manifestation of Goddess Durga, worshipped on the first day of Navratri. She is the daughter of the Himalayas (Shailraj) and is also known as Goddess Parvati and Sati in her previous birth. She carries a trident (Trishul) in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand, mounted on a bull (Vrishabha). She governs the Moon (Chandra) and is the embodiment of the Muladhara Chakra.

ॐ देवी शैलपुत्र्यै नमः ॥

॥ प्रार्थना मंत्र ॥
वृषारूढां शूलधरां शैलपुत्रीं यशस्विनीम् ॥
Vande Vāñchhitalābhāya Chandrārdhakṛtaśekharām ।
Vṛṣārūḍhāṁ Śūladharāṁ Śailaputrīṁ Yaśasvinīm ॥
Meaning: I bow to the one who grants all desires, who wears the crescent moon, rides the bull, holds the trident, the glorious daughter of the mountain.

वृषारूढां शूलधरां शैलपुत्रीं यशस्विनीम् ॥
पूणेन्दु निभाम् गौरी मूलाधार स्थिताम् प्रथम दुर्गा त्रिनेत्राम् ।
पटाम्बर परिधानां रत्नाकिरीटा नामालंकार भूषिता ॥
पाशं च कमलं च दधतीं कराभ्याम्
श्वेतं च वृषं वरदाभयहस्ताम् ।
